Separation

1. Concaves: Concaves are curved plates that are used to thresh the crop and separate the grain from the chaff. They are typically made of steel or other durable materials and are adjustable to accommodate different crop types and harvesting conditions. Also known as separating grates.

2. Rotor: The rotor is a cylindrical drum that contains a series of rasp bars or other threshing elements. As the crop passes through the rotor, the threshing elements separate the grain from the straw and chaff.

3. Sieves: Sieves are used to separate the grain from the chaff and other debris. They are typically made of wire mesh or perforated metal and are positioned beneath the rotor to allow the separated grain to fall through while the chaff and other debris are expelled from the back of the combine.

4. Straw walkers: Straw walkers are a series of shaking sieves that help to separate the remaining chaff and straw from the grain. As the grain passes over the straw walkers, the shaking motion causes the chaff and straw to fall through while the grain continues on to be collected.

5. Cleaning fan: The cleaning fan is used to blow away any remaining chaff and debris from the separated grain. It is typically located near the sieves and uses a powerful fan to blow air through the crop to remove any remaining debris.

6. Grain tank: The grain tank is where the separated grain is collected and stored until it can be unloaded. It is typically located at the rear of the combine and can hold several hundred bushels of grain depending on the size of the combine.

Together, these parts work in conjunction to separate the grain from the rest of the harvested crop and ensure that only clean, high-quality grain is collected for storage and processing.
